Symptoms and Signs of Diabetes

Here are the common symptoms experienced by people with diabetes.

  • Frequent Urination
  • Unusual Thirst
  • Increased Hunger
  • Noticeable Weight Loss
  • Blurred Vision
  • Cuts don’t Heal Quickly
  • Skin and/or Yeast Infections

·         Frequent Urination

Are you visiting the washroom more than you usually do? When there is too much of glucose in your blood, you will urinate more. When no or insufficient insulin is generated, the kidneys cannot filter the glucose back in the blood. The kidneys will borrow the water from your blood to dilute glucose, which ultimately fills up your bladder.

·         Unusual Thirst

You tend to get thirstier than usually as you urinate more. Whatever amount of water you intake will replace the lost liquid of the body.

·         Increased Hunger

Due to the improper working of the insulin (which is less or no insulin in the body), the cells do not get enough energy as required, thus it tries to acquire more energy through the food you eat.

·         Noticeable Weight Loss

Weight loss is more common in Type 1 diabetes. The body of the patient with this disease searches for energy source as the cells isn’t getting glucose. Muscle tissue and fat will be broken down for energy. Weight loss is more noticeable with type 1 diabetes than the other types of diabetes.

·         Blurred Vision

The tissue being pulled from your eye lenses causes blurred vision, which affects the eyes’ ability to see and focus. There are severe cases where blindness or such vision problems are seen.

·         Cuts don’t Heal Quickly

Have you felt that you have a cut on your body which more than a week old? When the sugar amount is higher in the blood, the ability of healing is weakened and you can clearly determine this from some old cuts.

·         Skin and/or Yeast Infections

When the sugar amount in your body is high, its ability to recover from infections becomes low. Women with diabetes find it difficult to cure bladder and vaginal infections.

If you find any of these signs, do consult your doctor in no time. Diabetes can be detected with a simple urine and blood test to find the excess amount of glucose in the blood. If you experience any of these symptoms, do not just ignore it.
