Basics of Diabetes
Everything you should know about Diabetes.
Diabetes, also known as Diabetes mellitus, is a disease that occurs when the blood sugar/glucose increases. When your body does not make sufficient insulin for itself, the glucose present in whatever you eat is not regulated by the hormone called pancreas, hence this glucose does not reach to your cells and remains in your blood. High blood sugar level may cause severe health problems.
Mentioned below are the most common types of diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes
- The Body of a person with type 1 diabetes does not make insulin at all. All the cells in your pancreas that make insulin are destroyed. Patients are injected with insulin every day to live a normal life. It appears at any age.
Type 2 Diabetes
- Very less or no insulin is made in the person’s body having type 2 diabetes. It appears at any age but most often seen in middle-aged to older people.
- This type of diabetes is generally seen in pregnant women and disappears as the child is born. Gestational diabetes increases the chances of getting the disease later.
- This isn’t a curable disease, but with proper information and a little care, patients with diabetes can live a longer and better life too.
